PURCHASE WOLLEMIA NOBILIS SEEDS HERE!

B'z Greenhouse is delighted to announce that we have a limited amount of Wollemi Pine seeds available for sale to the general public.  These seeds from the now famous, yet still critically endangered Wollemi Pine, are bound to be a hot commodity - so order yours today!

A BUMPER CROP!  WE'RE KEEPING MOST OF THESE WOLLEMI PINE SEEDS FOR OUR OWN USE, BUT HAVE DECIDED TO RELEASE A FEW TO THE PUBLIC.

The reason we are making these seeds available is because we understand the frustration involved, (especially here in North America), of trying to obtain this plant.  We have received inquiries about purchasing Wollemi Pines from all over the world, but the majority have come from the United States and Canada.  As we are currently unable to ship live plants across international borders, this is a way to help plant enthusiasts in all parts of the world to finally have a chance to own one of their own.

The seeds that we have obtained came from a small group of Wollemi Pines.  Other seeds from this same group have proven viable, with dozens of new wollemi 'babies' being germinated from them, and it is our opinion these seeds have indeed been pollinated and are good to go!

A CLOSE UP VIEW OF THE WOLLEMIA NOBILIS SEEDS WE ARE OFFERING FOR SALE.

There are dozens of techniques used to get these seeds to germinate, and we suggest the buyer do some serious research into it before planting their seeds.  Of course how you decide to try is completely up to you, but here is some general information the buyer may find of interest...

SOWING THE SEEDS

Soaking:

An important step before planting your seeds is to soak them in water for a period of AT LEAST 24 hours, (some people report soaking them for a week!).  Seeds that sink to the bottom of the container are reportedly the good seeds, while the ones that remain floating are said to be the 'duds'.  Personally, we would plant ALL the seeds regardless of whether they sink or not...why take any chances?  After the seeds have been given a good soaking, dry them out completely and then plant them, (note, some folks report putting the seeds into a refrigerator for 1 or 2 weeks before planting).

Soil:

Several different types of soil have been reported for germinating the seeds, from nearly all sand, to mulch, to a plain old store-bought potting mix.  This species does favor acid soil though.  In their natural habitat the pH is as low as 4, and in potted cultivation they favor a pH of less than 6.  Like most plants, they do NOT like any sort of standing water.  Make sure the soil has excellent drainage and keep it moist, not soaking wet.

Germination:

Under prime conditions the seeds will begin to sprout in as little as 6 weeks.  That being said, we feel we should mention a story we recently heard from a lady who has successfully germinated 36 wollemi seedlings.  She planted them outside last season (2013) and had NONE come up.  She assumed the seeds she had planted were no good, then late this Spring (2014) they popped up!  She nearly pulled them out as weeds before realizing what they really were.  The seeds endured temperatures as low as -15 C during the winter.  It is NOT necessary for the seeds to be frozen before germinating, we just mentioned this because we thought it was quite fascinating that they can take such temperatures.  If you don't see any new plants in 6 weeks from your seeds, don't give up on them.  They may indeed just be taking their time!

As mentioned above, these seeds were taken from a small group of Wollemi Pines.  The female cones were exposed to plenty of pollen from neighboring male cones and appear to be well developed.  It is our opinion that these seeds are healthy and viable.  Each individual order will be sent a sample of seeds from more than one tree to increase the chances of receiving pollinated viable seeds.

GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY PLANTING!  : )
